We understand and appreciate that Special Schools have particular requirements and may come under the jurisdiction of the Care Quality Commission's regulations regarding the safeguarding of vulnerable adults as well as vulnerable children.
Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) Checks
For those Special Schools also licensed to care for vulnerable adults (individuals aged over 18), we offer the facility to process POVA checks and POVA First checks in addition to an Enhanced CRB Disclosure.
Eligibility for POVA Checks
If a student turns 18 during a given academic year, usually his or her final academic year, no POVA checks on staff are required as the DFE accepts this as incidental contact.
If, however, a Special School is licenced via the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to continue to teach/care for 18-24 year olds, then staff will need to be checked against the POVA list.
If staff are not already checked against the POVA list then a new CRB application will be required, to incorporate both the children and vulnerable adults lists being checked.
The students themselves do not need to be checked against POVA as, in this case, the DFE considers their contact with young children to be peer to peer.
Processing a POVA Check - Same as a normal application
The process is the same as a normal E-bulk application and there is no extra charge to include it in the standard price of £63.99, made up of:
